Bill Crowther , Mechanical Engineer
Bill was born in 1968 in Weybridge, Surrey and obtained a PhD in Engineering from the University of Bath in 1995. He was appointed as lecturer in Engineering at the University of Manchester in 1997, where he now teaches and researches within the subject area of Aerospace Engineering. Bill started designing and making his own wind and percussion instruments in 1988, with the goal of eventually trying to build machines that could play these instruments for him. Recognizing the need for collaboration between technologists and artists to reach this goal, he established the framework for the MBot musical robotics partnership in 1997.Jonathan Woolfenden , Sculptor
Jonathan Woolfenden is a sculptor whose work includes installations based around complex mechanical mechanisms and large scale steel structures with acoustic elements. Jonathan was born in 1966 in Glossop and graduated from Bath Academy of Fine Art. In 1987 he founded Arch Three Studio in Manchester where he continues to work on a variety of projects. Other works by Jonathan in Manchester are his Fantastic Parade at the Pump House Museum of Labour History and Nothing to Worry About, a sculpture of a First World War Dreadnought battleship pointing into the sky.
John Bilbo , Computer Programmer
John Bilbo is a software engineer who works for IPL in Bath, UK. John is an experienced MIDI-based musician and computer programmer. John wrote the original RoboDrummer and TwelveOnes software applicationsMari-Zu Okereke, Computer Programmer
Mari-zu was born in 1969 in Stretford, Manchester and obtained a degree in Applied Computing in 1991 from Manchester Metropolitan University. He has previously worked as a computer graphics programmer but currently works on Internet banking solutions for S1 Corporation, based in Manchester. Mari-zu is an experienced C++ programmer and has a background in MIDI-based music applications. Mari-zu developed the code for real-time control of Stringbot No. 1.
